This house is far away from the urban area, with attractive landscape and high forest coverage. The plan aim to provide a place not only to make painters' painting with pleasure, they are also willing to take friends and family have a comfortable three-months trip at there. The design concept is to blur spaces definition between inside and outside according to erect extensive glass and intervention of the interior landscape, so that the dwelling house weaves together with natural environment, to experience the change of nature in daily life.
From an ecological perspective, as a green house practice, the indoor part makes full use of natural ventilation and lighting, white walls and light color woods let rooms more brighter to reduce the use of artificial lighting during the day.
The plan reserved and improved the primary closed courtyard to respond the Latgale and Old Believers typical culture. The courtyard divides from working area and living area in the layout, to provide a relatively separate place while painters' work. At the same time, in order to ensure the indoor field of view wide and interactive, making several areas on the first and second floors visible to each other through the courtyard, which can increase fun and exploratory experience.
As the key space of the building, the painters' workshop has a wonderful field of view and natural lighting which is include partial sunlight exposure and positive skylight from the north floor-to-ceiling windows for the most of time. In terms of function, it provides a space for the artists to paint independently or to creat togehter with their families.
The premise of integrating a house into nature is to protect nature. Taking the living environmental needs of bats into consideration, the roof shade in the north-south direction and east-west ventilation. This part is separated from people's living area, both of them don't interfere with each other.
